1st Excursion of the Design course on 31th of October
We implemented the first excursion of the
"Design" course on 31th of October. The meeting point was the
Istanbul Modern. We visited the Chamber of architects and had a brief interview
with the board secretary of the Chamber of architects Sami Yılmaztürk and Altay
Erol who is a famous architect. Historical places, urban places, common public
spaces, popular squares were on the route. Some photos from the excursion are presented
below.

· Attendance to all classes (since to provide an awareness and understanding of design methods and practices, it is very important that students participation. Absence rate is % 20 for obligatory cases).
· All assignments need to be completed on time.
· All students need to participate as contributing member of the class.

Procedure
Class assignments and the quality of work completed from week to week. All assignments will be graded and a grade will be given for each assignment. Reading assignments and research works will be graded also.

Course
Description
Design Course is a foundation level class structured
for design principles and practices to give students a foundation understanding
of design rules, laws and guidelines. Students will learn the language of
design and are introduced to the visual elements and principles of design
through slide lectures and demonstrations. The visual elements consist of:
point and line; shape and mass; texture; light; color; and space. The
principles of design include: unity and variety; balance; emphasis and focal
point; proportion and scale; movement; stability and rhythm. Students will be
expected to apply the concepts learned from the lectures and demonstrations to
create 2-3 dimensional visual compositions.

No prequisites are required as this is the first
design course offered.
